Thailand Probes Alleged 40M Baht Scammer Bribe in MDES
Thailand's Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has established a committee to probe an alleged 40 million baht scammer bribe scandal. Led by the Permanent Secretary, Patchara Anuntasilpa, the committee will consist mainly of external anti-corruption and law enforcement personnel. The government has promised to prosecute all responsible parties, regardless of rank.
The investigation, to be completed within 30 days, will conclude by the end of October. The committee holds the power to summon documents and evidence. It comprises representatives from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO). Notably, Patchara Anuntasilpa is the only internal MDES representative, ensuring independence and credibility.
As of now, no details about external agencies involved in the committee have been confirmed. Official statements are awaited for clarity on this matter.
