Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, has made a significant stride in India by opening two showrooms and launching the Tesla Model Y.

Showroom Launches

Tesla's first showroom in India, located in Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Maker Maxity Mall, serves as the company's flagship retail and experience outlet. The second showroom, which opened on August 11, 2025, is situated at Worldmark, Aerocity, New Delhi, near the New Delhi International Airport. This new showroom caters to consumers in Delhi and the National Capital Region.

Model Y Launch

Initially, only the Model Y Long Range variant with rear-wheel drive is available in India. The base price for this model is approximately ₹67.8 lakh (around €68,000). Deliveries are prioritized for Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with customers able to order and register vehicles nationwide. Self-driving features are available as an option for an additional ₹6 lakh, but the rollout of this functionality will come later.

As of now, Tesla does not manufacture vehicles locally in India; all cars are imported. The company is using a retail-first strategy to test demand before potential further investment.

First Indian Supercharger

In a significant move, Tesla also opened its first Supercharger in India this week, marking the commemorative 'No 001' plaque.

High-End Customer Experience

The Aerocity showroom in Delhi serves as a high-end customer experience and display centre, allowing prospective buyers to view Tesla vehicles up close, explore features in person, and engage with the brand's latest technology.
