SWPC's Remarkable 2024: Awards, Solar Expansion, and Partnerships Drive Sustainability
The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has had a remarkable year, receiving prestigious awards, expanding its renewable energy portfolio, and making significant strides in sustainability and partnership development.
SWPC started the year by being recognised for its excellence in public-private partnerships, earning the 'Excellence in Public-Private Partnership Award 2024' and being named 'Best Exemplary Public Water Agency of the Year'.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, SWPC expanded its renewable energy portfolio by commissioning a 61 MW solar facility at the Jubail 3B desalination plant. This addition joins the Jubail 3A Independent Water Project, which was named 'Desalination Plant of the Year' and offsets 60,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
SWPC has also taken steps to strengthen its financial stability. It has committed to optimizing costs, diversifying revenue streams, and improving resource allocation. This proactive approach has led to a robust project pipeline, with 9 projects under tendering, 22 under planning, 15 under contract management, and 4 under execution in 2024.
The company's commitment to sustainability was further demonstrated by the release of its first Sustainability Disclosure Report and the planting of 30,000 trees across Saudi Arabia as part of the Green Saudi Initiative.
SWPC has also been actively fostering partnerships. It held a forum in 2024 called 'Empowering Partnerships for a Sustainable Water Future', resulting in over 10 memorandums of understanding with local and international partners. These include collaborations with international consortia such as Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Corporation from China, aiming to jointly develop a sustainable water sector in Saudi Arabia. SWPC also reported full compliance with environmental regulations set by the National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) in 2024.
SWPC's achievements in 2024 demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, financial stability, and partnership development. With its ambitious plans and robust project pipeline, the company is well-positioned to strengthen its role as the principal water buyer in Saudi Arabia and become the sole off-taker of all water produced in the country.
