Sustainability data management solutions co-developed by S&P Global and Novata

In a significant move, S&P Global and Novata have expanded their collaboration, aiming to provide private markets investors with essential sustainability intelligence. This partnership, which began in 2021, is designed to equip organizations of all sizes with the tools necessary to act decisively on sustainability as a driver of resilience and value creation.

At the heart of this collaboration is Novata's platform, which offers ESG measurement, data collection, and benchmarking capabilities. Leanne Todd, the Head of Energy Transition, Sustainability & Services at S&P Global Commodity Insights, has been instrumental in this partnership. However, the name of her counterpart from Novata remains undisclosed.

The expanded partnership combines Novata's sustainability data management and carbon accounting tools with S&P Global Sustainable1's sustainability intelligence capabilities. This synergy will result in market-leading solutions that cater to clients' specific needs.

One of the key solutions offered by the collaboration is the benchmarking sustainability performance solution. This solution enables the measurement and comparison of sustainability performance against S&P Global's Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) framework, with collection and reporting on Novata's platform.

Another significant solution is the carbon calculations solution, which involves detailed Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations. This solution combines disclosed S&P Global Trucost data on large suppliers and Novata's activity-based emission factors.

The partnership also focuses on regulatory compliance, helping companies navigate requirements such as CSRD, ISSB, VSME, and California Climate Law using S&P Global Sustainable1's sustainability reporting services and data captured on Novata's platform.

The ultimate goal of this collaboration is to provide companies with insights to manage climate risks, uncover opportunities, and build long-term resilience. The solutions offered by this partnership will be accessible to more organizations due to the expanded partnership.

Notable supporters of this initiative include the Ford Foundation, asset management firm Hamilton Lane, and social change-focused investment firm Omidyar Network. The launch of Novata was also a collaborative effort, involving general partners (GPs) and limited partners (LPs).

In conclusion, the expanded partnership between S&P Global and Novata promises to provide organizations with the tools necessary to manage risk, uncover opportunities, and report with confidence. This collaboration is a significant step forward in empowering private markets investors to make informed decisions that prioritize sustainability and long-term resilience.
