Supermarket chain Asda to revamp rewards program in a matter of weeks, axing popular discount as part of the changes.
Asda Backs Out on Blue Light Card Discount Scheme
In a move that's left millions stunned, Asda is shuttering its discount program for Blue Light Card holders by the end of May. This bombshell decision affects dedicated workers across various sectors, including teachers, NHS staff, social care workers, and emergency services personnel.
Currently, this group enjoys a 5% discount on fresh food items such as meat, fish, fruit, veg, fresh fruit juice, smoothies, dairy products, and bakery goods. However, starting on the 27th of May, this perk will vanish entirely.
As of the 13th of May, Blue Light Card members are no longer able to link their membership to Asda Rewards accounts. Members with existing connections can continue to enjoy exclusive offers until the final cut-off date. Needless to say, this update has stirred up quite a fuss on social media.
Users criticizing Asda comments include:
- Disappointed Customer
- Disgruntled Supporter
- Wavering Shopper
An Asda spokesperson responded to the criticism, stating: "We launched our partnership with Blue Light Card during the pandemic to provide additional support for emergency workers and would like to thank them for the opportunity to work with them during the last five years. Our focus now is on providing all our customers with outstanding value every time they visit our stores or shop with us online."
Meanwhile, Blue Light has alerted their customers about this change via email. According to the email: "This change is one of several adjustments Asda is making across its business as it implements its new everyday pricing approach. You can continue using the current offer for the next two weeks, up to and including Tuesday, 27 May."
It seems that Asda is currently embroiled in radical changes, headed by new CEO Allan Leighton. Amid a series of job cuts, internal restructuring, and bungled IT upgrades, Leighton is intent on enhancing customer base while curtailing costs. More changes are expected in the near future.
