Oil Spill Prevention Training Exercises Conducted on Viluy River

On April 3, training exercises were held on the Viluy River and at the facilities of PJSC "YATEK" to prevent potential oil spills. The company's specialists practiced deploying and installing booms to mitigate the impacts of such incidents.

In a simulated scenario, staff from the Left Bank SP discovered a minor oil leak during a shift change, approximately 30 centimeters high, accompanied by a strong odor. After receiving a notification at 10:30, emergency services swiftly initiated efforts to localize the simulated spill, successfully completing the necessary work by 11:25.

Approximately 15 employees from various departments participated in the exercises, including the non-staff emergency rescue team (NERT) of PJSC "YATEK". A total of twelve units of equipment were utilized, including fire crews and specialized equipment for oil spill response.

The exercises emphasized the practical actions of the personnel, response time, and the effectiveness of equipment usage. The workers demonstrated a coordinated effort, ensuring the localization and elimination of the simulated emergency situation within the specified timeframe.

"The results of the exercises demonstrated a well-prepared workforce, with rapid and professional action taken by the personnel. During the 'Safety Hour' held after the exercises, the identified shortcomings were rectified, and the ongoing improvement of the skills of specialists continued, with the aim of ensuring maximum environmental protection and production safety," explained Igor Chikirkhin, Deputy Head of the Production Department.

The exercises were conducted according to the annual plan and are part of PJSC "YATEK"'s program to ensure environmental safety and preparedness for emergency situations.

Crucial activities undertaken by companies involved in oil and gas operations for preventing oil spills and maintaining environmental safety typically encompass: training exercises, environmental monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, technology and innovation utilization, collaboration with regulatory bodies, and community engagement. These activities are aimed at enhancing response capabilities, improving coordination, testing new technologies, and ensuring a unified response to emergencies. While PJSC 'YATEK' is not a well-known entity in the context of environmental safety, their participation in such training exercises can indicate their contribution to the abovementioned efforts.

  1. In an effort to enhance response capabilities and protect the environment, PJSC 'YATEK' conducted oil spill prevention training exercises using equipment from environmental science and finance, such as booms and specialized oil spill response equipment.
  2. The company, involved in both science and industry, also collaborates with regulatory bodies and community members to further their efforts in improving coordination and testing new technologies in environmental safety, much like those in the field of energy and innovation.
  3. These exercises not only help improve the company's environmental-science practices but also demonstrate their commitment to production safety, ensuring minimal impact on the local environment and industry as a whole.
