Stuff Group to close Petone printing press by 2027, cutting 30 jobs

Stuff Group has announced the closure of its Petone printing press by 2027. The move will shift all print operations to Christchurch, affecting 30 jobs at the Wellington site. The decision follows years of restructuring under current ownership. The Petone facility was acquired from Australia's Nine Media in November. However, the lease on the site remains active for another year before the shutdown begins. A formal decommissioning plan is now in development.

Consultations with the 30 employees at Petone will take place over the coming weeks. The company aims to reduce costs and streamline operations by centralising printing in Christchurch. This consolidation aligns with the strategy set since Sinead Boucher purchased Stuff Group for $1 in 2020. The closure will eliminate 30 positions at the Petone press. Operations will fully transition to Christchurch by 2027. The decision reflects ongoing efforts to cut expenses and improve efficiency across the company.
