Daily Hodl: The Edge of Tariff Tensions
Stock market rebound potential increases with tariff de-escalation, suggests Tom Lee of Fundstrat.
Get ready to ride the market rollercoaster as Fundstrat's Head of Research, Tom Lee, predicts a major market swing due to the easing of U.S.-China trade war negotiations.
In a recent interview with CNBC Television, Lee hinted that a de-escalation in the tariff skirmish between nations could significantly decrease the likelihood of an economic downturn.
"Markets have become overly pessimistic, pricing in a 60% probability of a recession, but if tariff negotiations de-escalate, that probability diminishes, suggesting there's still plenty of opportunity for a significant market rebound."
Lee emphasized the importance of monitoring the tariff battle between the U.S. and China. According to him, if tariffs continue, it could spell bad news for the global economy. However, if one side gives in or the situation de-escalates, which Lee believes is likely, it could lead to a positive turn for the stock market.
"The current level of reciprocal tariffs between the U.S. and China is absurd, and if they remain, the global economy may take a hit. But if de-escalation is on the horizon, the downside risk drastically decreases, and stocks could perform well throughout the year."
