New One-Way Street 'News Street' Enhances Nordhorn Railway Environment

Construction has begun on a new one-way street named 'News Street' southwest of Nordhorn railway station. This development is part of an ongoing upgrade of the railway environment, aiming to strengthen the station as a calling card for the city and promote climate-friendly mobility.

The planning architect for the new street, 'Ladestraße', is W+P Landschaftsarchitekten from Berlin. The street will be approximately 450 meters long, connecting Denekamper Street and Paul Street.

The construction of News Street will create a continuous connection between the platform and the surrounding streets, making it more accessible and convenient for passengers and locals. The street will feature a footpath, greenery, some parking spaces for cars, and around 150 bicycle parking spaces.

The area between News Street and the buildings of the Vocational Schools will be revised and integrated into the overall concept of the railway environment. Approximately 1.5 million euros will be invested in the construction project.

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge at the eastern end of the railway grounds is planned for the medium term. The bridge is intended to replace the pedestrian bridge on Bernhard-Niehues Street, currently closed for construction work and scheduled for complete dismantling in the future.

The street's design prioritizes sustainable drainage solutions, with rainwater infiltrating directly on site, reducing the burden on the sewer system. The street's construction is another milestone in the urban development framework plan for the railway environment.

The Bentheimer Railway (BE) is the client for the construction project, with the city of Nordhorn bearing the costs. The County of Grafschaft Bentheim has made the corresponding areas available for this purpose. The city of Nordhorn expects financial support from the state and federal government, amounting to approximately 70 percent.

The decision to name the street 'News Street' was made by the Nordhorn Council. The creation of this new street is expected to enhance the attractiveness of the railway environment and contribute to its overall infrastructure and amenities.
