SPD advocates for expanded financial aid for home heating systems
In an interview with the Funke media group, Matthias Miersch, the SPD parliamentary group leader, has expressed his views on the reform of the Building Energy Act.
Miersch, a German politician known for his involvement in environmental and energy policy, has advocated for a more socially targeted promotion of heating system replacement. He believes that such promotion should help consumers avoid falling into a cost trap and enable them to afford the switch to a new heating system.
However, Miersch has not specified the details of the proposed social scaling of promotion for heating system replacement. He has, however, emphasised the necessity of promotion in light of rising CO2 prices.
In terms of the reform of the Building Energy Act, Miersch has rejected a fundamental change of course. Instead, he has advocated for less bureaucracy in the reform. He believes in considering the overall ecological balance of a building in the context of the Building Energy Act.
The coalition agreement between the Union and SPD provides for the abolition of the "Heating Act" and for the GEG to be made "more technology-open, flexible, and simpler." Miersch's comments suggest that he aligns with this approach.
Miersch has also expressed concerns about the financial burden of rising energy costs on broad population groups. He believes that those who earn a lot do not need a generous promotion for replacing their heating system.
Gas and oil heating systems are expected to become increasingly expensive due to rising CO2 prices, according to Miersch. This underscores the importance of his calls for affordable and socially targeted promotion in the reform of the Building Energy Act.
While Miersch's exact positions on these topics cannot be confirmed without consulting recent speeches, interviews, or legislative proposals involving him, his comments provide insight into his general approach to climate policies and the Building Energy Act reform.
