Spar Austria Appoints Markus Kaser as New Vice-CEO and Deputy Chairman

Spar Austria has announced the appointment of Markus Kaser as its new Vice-CEO and deputy chairman of the board, effective January 1, 2026. The 54-year-old will also become a board member, filling a vacant position.

Kaser, a Tyrolean native, has been with Spar Austria since 2021, overseeing product management, marketing, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, IT, and the Interspar and Maximarkt divisions. Before joining the board, Kaser spent over two decades with Spar, starting his career with the company in 1998. He holds a degree in business administration from the University of Innsbruck.

The appointment comes as part of a strategic move to strengthen the board and ensure continuity, as stated by Gerhard Drexel, president of the supervisory board. Kaser will join current CEO Fritz Poppmeier and Chairman of the Board Hans K. Reisch in leading the company.

Markus Kaser's appointment as Vice-CEO and deputy chairman of the board is set to take effect on January 1, 2026. With his extensive experience and knowledge of Spar Austria, he is expected to play a significant role in the company's future.
