Solar power plant in Covilhã, Portugal, now linked to national electricity grid; capable of generating approximately 70 gigawatts (GW) of power.

Solar energy facility powers residences of 60,000 households.

Prosolia Energy recently announced the completion and operation of its latest solar plant, the Boidobra Solar Power Plant, situated near Covilhã, Portugal. With an installed capacity of 43 megawatts (MW), this facility now contributes significantly to Portugal's clean energy production, generating about 70 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity per year – enough to power around 60,000 homes[1][2].

By producing electricity, the Boidobra Solar Power Plant prevents the annual emission of up to 61,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), thus supporting efforts towards carbon footprint reduction and environmental sustainability[1].

Prosolia Energy's renewable energy project reflects its commitment to the energy transition and preserving the local environment. To minimize biodiversity impact and promote a balanced ecosystem, the company has partnered with local shepherds, enabling sheep grazing within the plant's boundaries[1]. This practice promotes natural vegetation management, soil fertilization, and preserves native biodiversity.

Notably, the facility is designed with high-base fencing and wide mesh close to the ground, ensuring safe passage for small mammals while maintaining ecological connectivity[1]. This considers the importance of an undisturbed ecosystem within and around the solar power plant.

  1. The Boidobra Solar Power Plant's operation in Portugal contributes valuable news to the environmental-science sector, as it generates enough electricity to power 60,000 homes annually.
  2. The climate-change focus in the industry has been strengthened with Prosolia Energy's latest renewable-energy project, the Boidobra Solar Power Plant.
  3. By reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the Boidobra Solar Power Plant's contribution to Portugal's clean energy production aligns with the finance industry's growing interests in sustainable projects.
  4. In environmental-science, Prosolia Energy's partnership with local shepherds for sheep grazing within the Boidobra Solar Power Plant demonstrates a commitment to preserving the local environment and maintaining biodiversity.
  5. The Boidobra Solar Power Plant, with its high-base fencing and wide mesh, sets an example for renewable-energy events worldwide on prioritizing both energy production and maintaining an undisturbed ecosystem.
