Social Security Payment Schedule for August: When to Expect Your Benefits

In August 2025, Social Security payments will be distributed according to the beneficiary's category and birth date. Here's a breakdown of the payment schedule:

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their payment on Friday, August 1, 2025.

For individuals who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, their payment will also be on August 1.

For those whose benefits started after May 1997 and are paid by birth date, the payments are as follows:

  • Birth dates 1st–10th will receive payment on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
  • Birth dates 11th–20th will receive payment on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
  • Birth dates 21st–31st will receive payment on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Due to Labor Day falling on Monday, September 1, 2025, SSI recipients will receive an additional early payment for September on Friday, August 29, 2025. This means that SSI recipients will effectively receive two payments in August 2025.

Auxiliary benefits, such as spousal or survivor benefits, have payment dates determined by the person whose earnings record they are on, not the beneficiary's birthday.

The recent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), implemented in January 2025, has added a little less than $50 to the average monthly Social Security benefit of about $1,900.

Recipients affected by the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) will see an increase in their monthly checks. Spouses affected by the GPO repeal should see a $700 increase, and surviving spouses should get a $1,190 increase, on average. Recipients affected by the repeal of the WEP should see an average increase of $360 in their monthly checks.

If you don't receive your electronic payments on the scheduled date, contact your bank or financial institution for assistance. If you still need help with a missing Social Security payment, call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or contact your local Social Security office.

If your payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, you'll receive your payment early. Payments will be issued on the weekday immediately prior to your expected payment date. The Social Security Administration prepares payment schedules before checks are sent.

Regardless of the birth date, personal-finance management is crucial for individuals to ensure they manage their Social Security benefits effectively. For instance, understanding the payment schedules can help recipients plan their expenses better. According to the Social Security Administration's August 2025 payment schedule [1], SSI recipients will receive their payment on Friday, August 1, 2025, and an additional early payment for September on August 29, 2025, due to Labor Day. On the other hand, individuals who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 and those whose benefits started after May 1997 and are paid by birth date will receive their payments at various dates throughout August [1]. It's essential to keep a close eye on personal-finance matters regarding Social Security to avoid missing payments and to benefit from any changes in policies, such as the recent repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which are estimated to increase monthly checks for many recipients [2] [3].
