Slowdown in Pro AV Industry Expansion Continues According to AVIXA Report

Monthly sales in the Pro AV industry took a hit in November, with the AV Sales Index (AVI-S) dropping to 52.1 – the second consecutive low result this year. Although it's still above the no-net-change line of 50, indicating a positive growth, it's undeniably sluggish compared to industry standards.

Looking back, this sluggish growth is reminiscent of the early days of the pandemic, but don't be fooled – the industry is in a vastly different state now. With a thriving labor market, we're dealing with slow growth amidst a fully employed industry. The stark contrast between now and the pandemic's peak shows a seasonally-slowed industry in a healthy state, unlike the struggling, pandemic-hit industry we saw in January 2021.

Besides seasonal factors, tariffs emerged as a new concern in commentary from the industry. Fears related to President-elect Trump's election and its possible impact on costs and barriers are on the rise. Keep your eyes peeled for more on that.

AVIXA recently unveiled their "State of the Pro AV Industry" annual report, available to all enterprise members for free. This year's headline takeaway won't come as a shock to those tracking the index: growth has been underwhelming, but the overall health of the industry offers opportunities for smart businesses to boost revenue. Dive into the report for a more detailed look at the challenges and areas where growth is more promising.

November also saw the AV Employment Index take a dip to 52.9 – the lowest result since March 2021. This near-50 result is due to overall steadiness and tell-tale signs that issues with hiring have finally been resolved, leading to flat payrolls. This stands in stark contrast to the hiring struggles faced during the early days of the pandemic.

Although slow growth is a bummer, the industry is still in good shape right now.

A weakening economic climate has been identified as the primary culprit behind the slow expansion of Pro AV, as previously discussed. A silver lining emerged in this month's U.S. job market update: 227,000 jobs were added and past revisions totaled 56,000. A robust economy acts like wind beneath our industry's wings, so this news strengthened the outlook for the coming months.

The Pro AV Business Index is derived from a monthly survey of the AVIXA Insights Community, a research community of industry members that tracks business trends in commercial AV. If you're interested in joining the AVIXA Insights Community, check out www.avixa.org/AVIP.

The slow expansion of the Pro AV industry might be attributed to a weakening economic climate, but the overall health of the industry presents opportunities for savvy businesses to enhance revenue. Despite the underwhelming growth, the Pro AV Business Index shows that the industry is still in a relatively strong position.
