Shymkent, Kazakhstan, is witnessing significant positive trends in its socio-economic development in the first half of 2025. This growth is marked by increased investments, strong industrial production, rapid construction growth, expanding small and medium-sized businesses, enhanced infrastructure, and strategic diversification plans.

Fixed asset investments in Shymkent have seen a substantial increase of 31%, reaching 360 billion tenge since the beginning of 2025.
Industrial Production
Industrial output amounts to approximately 680 billion tenge this year. The city has launched two new industrial zones, "Zhuldyz" and "Bozaryk," to boost its industrial capacity.
Construction
Over 517,000 square meters of housing have been commissioned, reflecting active growth in the construction sector. Infrastructure modernization includes the completion of a new airport terminal and the reconstruction of the railway station.
Small and Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs)
The number of SMBs exceeds 139,000, employing about 245,000 people, demonstrating a thriving entrepreneurial environment.
Infrastructure Development
Progress includes educational and sports facilities development under the National Project "Future Schools," such as 12 schools, a "Palace of Schoolchildren," a mini-football center, and a sports complex.
Economic Growth Context
Shymkent's regional GDP growth rate stands at 15.4% year-on-year (January–July 2025), which is among the highest in Kazakhstan, supporting the data on city-level socio-economic advancement.
Future Diversification and Development Plans
The establishment of new industrial zones and the focus on infrastructure projects indicate efforts to diversify the economic base and foster sustainable development. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed to further diversify the economy of Shymkent and attract additional investments.
In addition, he has instructed to build a new runway for the airport in Shymkent, modernize the road infrastructure, address the shortage of school places, and provide housing for residents. Two major transport interchanges have been commissioned, and the railway station has been reconstructed.
