- SEC Drops Investigation into PayPal's Stablecoin, PayPal USD (PYUSD)
After nearly two years of investigation, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided not to take enforcement action against PayPal's USD-backed stablecoin, PayPal USD (PYUSD). The SEC sent a notification to PayPal in February 2025, confirming the closing of the inquiry which began in November 2023 when the regulator issued a subpoena for documents related to PYUSD[1][5].
PayPal, which introduced PYUSD to capitalize on the potential of Web3 payments, fully cooperated with the investigation[1][3]. The development comes amid reports that PayPal is planning to offer rewards to PYUSD users to boost adoption of the stablecoin[1].
