Schöftland raises water prices by 20% to fund critical infrastructure upgrades

Water prices in Schöftland will rise by 20 percent from January 2026. The increase, approved by the municipal council, will raise the fee from CHF 1.50 to CHF 1.80 per cubic metre. Officials say the extra funds will support essential upgrades to the local water supply infrastructure.

The proposal to adjust water fees came from the Electricity and Water Commission (ELWA). It was then reviewed by the Technical and Environmental Committee before gaining final approval. The Swiss Federal Price Supervision Office also examined the decision to ensure compliance with regulations.

The higher charges will help finance key infrastructure projects. These include a new stepped pumping station between Muhen and Hirschthal. Additional work will protect springs along the Suhre River, securing water quality for the future.

Local authorities stress that the investment in water infrastructure basics is necessary to maintain a reliable and high-quality water supply. Without the fee increase, planned upgrades could face delays or funding shortfalls.

Residents will pay CHF 0.30 more per cubic metre from next year. The funds will directly support ongoing and future water infrastructure work. Officials confirm the projects will strengthen the municipality's long-term water security.
