SC & TERAJU Team Up to Boost Bumiputera MSMEs' Capital Market Access
The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and TERAJU Bumiputera Corporation (TERAJU) have joined forces to boost capital market access for Bumiputera micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and mid-sized companies. The two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to create a pipeline of investment-ready Bumiputera companies and expand their fundraising capabilities.
The MoU, signed by SC Chairman Dato' Mohammad Faiz Azmi and TERAJU CEO Encik Junady Nawawi, aligns with the SC's 5-Year Roadmap (2024-2028) targeting RM40 billion in market-based fundraising by 2028. It seeks to build a pipeline of Bumiputera companies ready for stock market financing, explore co-investment opportunities, and promote sustainability reporting.
The partnership will strengthen fundraising readiness through the SC's Elevate programme led by Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM). Since its launch, five Elevate cohorts involving 78 companies have completed the programme. The inaugural Elevate-TERAJU cohort comprises 20 Bumiputera firms from various sectors, marking the first step in this effort. Encik Junady Nawawi sees this collaboration opening new pathways for Bumiputera companies to expand beyond traditional financing.
The MoU between the SC and TERAJU is set to enhance capital one access for Bumiputera MSMEs and MTCs, supporting the 13th Malaysia Plan's goal of helping Bumiputera businesses scale regionally and globally. By creating a robust pipeline of investment-ready companies, this collaboration is poised to drive growth and sustainability in the Bumiputera business ecosystem.
