Sanimed's dramatic turnaround leads to a bold new future campus

Sanimed, a leading provider of rehabilitation and medical equipment, has turned its fortunes around after a difficult period. The company, founded in 1983, recently achieved a balanced budget in 2025 following years of financial struggles. Now, it is preparing for a major expansion with a new 'future campus' in Ibbenbüren.

Sanimed has faced a turbulent history, including multiple changes in ownership. The Hartmann Group acquired it in 2001, followed by Palero in 2020, and finally the Löwenstein Group in 2021. Under Löwenstein's leadership, the company strengthened its market position in Germany, growing annual revenue by 15-20% until 2025. This growth pushed Sanimed from eighth to fifth place among top providers, increasing its market share from 4% to 7%. Competitors like Ottobock and Medtronic, meanwhile, saw little or no growth.

The company specialises in distributing homecare products, including wound care supplies, enteral nutrition, wheelchairs, and mobility scooters. After overcoming an 'existential crisis' in 2024/2025, Sanimed has now stabilised its finances and is moving forward with ambitious plans. Construction of the new 16,000-square-metre campus in Ibbenbüren is set to begin in 2026. The facility will include office space, a logistics hub, and a flagship store for Sanimed. This development marks a significant step in the company's ongoing restructuring and growth strategy.

With its financial recovery complete, Sanimed is now focused on expansion. The new campus will centralise operations and improve distribution capabilities. The project reflects the company's strengthened position in the rehabilitation and medical technology sector.
