Russia now offers pensioners major refunds on home repair costs
Russian pensioners can now claim partial or full refunds on major home repair costs. The scheme offers financial relief to those aged 70 and above, with full reimbursement available from 80 years old. To qualify, applicants must meet specific conditions, including homeownership and no outstanding utility debts. The benefit covers 50% to 100% of major repair contributions, depending on age and eligibility. Pensioners aged 70 to 79 receive a 50% refund, while those 80 and older get the full amount back. The same 50% discount applies to individuals with first- or second-group disabilities, labour veterans, and other qualifying groups.
The right to compensation remains even if the pensioner shares the home with other non-working pensioners or people with disabilities. However, the final refund amount varies by region, as it is based on local minimum rates for repairs and housing space standards. To receive the reimbursement, pensioners must first pay the repair bill in full and on time. Applications can be submitted through Multifunctional Public Service Centers (MFC), social welfare offices, or the Gosuslugi online portal.
The scheme helps older Russians reduce housing costs, provided they meet the criteria. Eligible pensioners can apply through official channels after settling their repair bills. The exact refund depends on regional rates and individual circumstances.
