Rostock's WaterMe Wins 'Business Concept' at Successful Old Town 2025

The 'Successful Old Town' 2025 competition concluded with the WaterMe drinking water supply project in Rostock winning the 'Business Concept' category. The event, attended by around 100 actors from various sectors, focused on transforming city centers into vibrant, future-proof spaces.

Dr. Christian Eckert, from the trade associations, discussed their role in city center design and shared possible future scenarios. He was joined by Economics Minister Dr. Wolfgang Blank, who praised the collaborative efforts behind the winning projects.

The cities of Stralsund and Wolgast presented practical examples of city center development, while Dr. Moritz Maikämper highlighted the importance of rethinking city centers together, particularly in relation to vacant buildings.

The winners were announced in four categories, with WaterMe drinking water supply Rostock taking the 'Business Concept' award, alongside Genusswelt NEUKOWIS, Zweiter Blick Neustrelitz, and musiKKlub Schwerin. Other winners included city magnets Neubrandenburg and association of old town residents Parchim e.V.

Construction Minister Christian Pegel encouraged attendees to use creativity to transform city centers into lively meeting places, with the focus of the discussion centering on dealing with vacancies and opening up new uses.

The state awards of the 'Successful Old Town' 2025 competition were presented in four categories, with the WaterMe project in Rostock recognized for its innovative business concept. The event brought together key stakeholders to discuss and share ideas on making city centers attractive and future-proof in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
