Saving on Going Out: Appetizer and Dessert Often Disappear - Rhineland-Palatinate’s hospitality crisis deepens as 900 businesses collapse in two years

The hospitality industry in Rhineland-Palatinate is facing another challenging year. Rising energy and food costs have pushed the sector into its sixth consecutive year of losses. Restaurants and hotels are struggling as customers cut back on dining out and businesses close at an alarming rate.

In 2024, around 500 hospitality businesses in the region filed for insolvency. By the third quarter of 2025, another 400 had shut their doors. Revenues have fallen for five years in a row, with early 2025 showing no signs of recovery despite higher employment in the sector.

The region’s hospitality industry continues to shrink under financial strain. With fewer visits, smaller orders, and declining revenues, many businesses are fighting to survive. The coming months will show whether seasonal demand and local partnerships can ease the pressure.
