In a significant development, the Germany ticket price for local public transportation will see a rise to 63 euros from January 1, 2026, marking the beginning of a new pricing mechanism that will take effect from 2027.

The announcement was made by Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) following the Transport Ministers' Conference in Munich. The conference, scheduled for the autumn of 2025, saw the ministers unanimously agree to determine the Germany ticket price based on a cost index.

This cost index will take into account various economic factors, such as wage and energy costs, to ensure a fair and sustainable pricing structure. The decision aims to put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the financing of the Germany ticket, which has been a point of contention for both users and transport companies.

The states have agreed to contribute financially to the Germany ticket, with an annual contribution of 1.5 billion euros each. The federal government, too, has pledged its support, promising to provide 1.5 billion euros per year until 2030.

The Germany ticket, despite its benefits, has been causing revenue losses for transport companies due to more expensive previous subscriptions. However, with the new pricing mechanism, users and transport companies will have clarity about the Germany ticket price from 2027 onwards.

Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing was instrumental in the decision to fix the price of the Deutschland-Ticket for local public transportation from 2027. State Secretary Stefan Schnorr, in a statement, reiterated that there is clarity that the ticket will continue permanently.

The political price-finding for the Germany ticket will end from 2027, providing a long-term solution for the financing of this popular ticket. The increase in the Germany ticket price to 63 euros from 2026 is seen as a precursor to the new pricing mechanism starting in 2027, ensuring a fair and sustainable pricing structure for all.
