Regensburg's ERO Project Boosts Green Energy, Reduces CO2 Emissions

Regensburg is set to boost its green energy efforts with the launch of the Regensburg East Energy Area (ERO) project. Mayor Astrid Freudenstein has welcomed this initiative, seeing it as a significant contribution to the city's sustainability goals and energy transition.

The ERO project, spearheaded by the BERR energy cooperative, is a solar energy park being constructed in the east of Regensburg. It will have a capacity of 11 megawatts peak (MWp), providing approximately one-fifth of the power needs for three major companies in the area: AUMOVIO, Schaeffler, and Siemens.

Notably, this project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by around 4,000 tons per year. This is a substantial step towards Regensburg's Green Deal and its commitment to a sustainable future. What's more, citizens and employees based at the site can directly participate in the ERO project through the BERR cooperative, fostering a sense of community involvement in the city's energy transition.

The ERO project, with its 11 MWp capacity, is set to supply about one-fifth of the power needs for AUMOVIO, Schaeffler, and Siemens. This initiative, supported by Mayor Astrid Freudenstein, is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 4,000 tons annually. Moreover, it offers direct participation for citizens and employees, making it a significant stride towards Regensburg's sustainability goals.
