Reduced duration for free parking in Krasnodar

In Krasnodar, a significant change has been announced for municipal parking lots with no barriers. Effective implementation will reduce the free parking duration from 15 minutes to just 5 minutes. This decision was announced by the city's press service on May 29.

The city's Department of Transport and Road Management stated that the excessive demand for parking in the city center is exacerbated by drivers who evade paid parking fees by taking advantage of extended free time. The shortened free time is primarily aimed at those who repeatedly use the free parking period, without contributing the full fare.

After paid parking time elapses, the allocated time for leaving such parking lots has also been reduced to 5 minutes. A draft resolution for changes in free parking times on municipal parking lots has been prepared. It will come into force upon necessary approvals and publication in the media.

Residents of Moscow have already been subject to similar restrictions targeting dishonest drivers. As of now, Krasnodar boasts 270 municipal paid parking lots, accommodating a total of 11,645 spaces.

In late June through November, an additional 35 municipal parking lots will open in Krasnodar. Parking fees can be paid through parking machines, the "Parking Krasnodar" mobile app, Sberbank mobile app, nearby Sberbank ATMs, or via monthly or annual subscriptions.

Parking privileges are offered to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Heroes of the Soviet Union, Heroes of the Russian Federation, full holders of the Order of Glory, and Heroes of Labor of Kuban. Additionally, large families are entitled to three hours of free parking in barrier-free parking lots.

Parking challenges and strategies for alleviating them in urban areas are common globally, as limited spaces and high demand often lead to congestion. Implementing time limits on free parking, improving parking infrastructure, and employing car sharing services can help manage traffic, optimize parking space usage, and reduce overall parking time. However, the impact of Krasnodar's parking policy change remains to be seen.

The Department of Transport and Road Management in Krasnodar plans to combat drivers evading paid parking fees by shortening the free time in municipal parking lots, aiming at those who repeatedly use the free parking period without contributing the full fare. In line with this, the industry of finance has introduced various methods for paying parking fees, including parking machines, mobile apps, ATMs, and subscriptions.
