DRK in Saxony: Wage agreement for 10,000 employees - Red Cross Workers in Saxony Secure Pay Raises and Shorter Hours by 2028
A new collective bargaining deal has been finalised for around 10,000 Red Cross workers in Saxony. The agreement includes pay rises, higher shift bonuses and a gradual reduction in working hours over the next few years.
The deal will see wages increase by 3.0% from January 1, 2026, followed by an additional 3.5% rise on January 1, 2027. Night shift bonuses will also go up in three stages, eventually reaching €4.50 extra per hour. Workers on rotating shifts and staff in DRK hospitals will receive higher pay supplements as well.
Working hours will be cut in phases. Emergency medical service employees will move to a 43-hour week immediately. By 2028, the standard workweek for all covered staff will drop to 39 hours.
The agreement was negotiated between the employer association for welfare and health services in Saxony and the German Red Cross.
The ratified deal brings immediate wage improvements and a clearer path to shorter working hours. Over 10,000 employees in Saxony's Red Cross will see their pay packets grow and schedules ease in the coming years. The changes take effect from 2026 onwards.
