Raytheon's Ground-Launched StormBreaker Smart Weapon Completes Testing in Record Time

Raytheon has swiftly developed and tested a ground-launched variant of its StormBreaker smart weapon, completing the process in a mere 50 days. The test took place earlier this year in California's Mojave Desert, with the prototype reaching an altitude of around 20,000 feet and meeting its primary objectives.

The ground-launched StormBreaker can engage both moving and stationary targets, even in challenging weather conditions. It offers extended range and expanded offensive roles compared to its air-launched counterpart. This rapid development was made possible by reusing existing StormBreaker components, demonstrating Raytheon's commitment to accelerating the programme through independent research, facilities, and expertise.

The US Air Force completed testing of this ground-launched variant in 2021, marking a record for such rapid development. Additional ground-launch tests are planned through 2025 to further validate the weapon's capabilities. This new option for U.S. and allied forces is part of Raytheon's broader portfolio of precision strike and network-enabled weapons.

Raytheon's ground-launched StormBreaker smart weapon has successfully completed testing, offering enhanced capabilities and rapid development. With additional tests planned, this new weapon system aims to provide U.S. and allied forces with crucial advantages in contested environments.
