Rapid rail service between Neuss and Krefeld now happening every 30 minutes
The Rhein-Kreis Neuss region is gearing up for a significant transformation in its rail infrastructure, with several proposed projects aiming to enhance connectivity and sustainability.
One of the most anticipated developments is the extension of the new RB 37 line, which is set to connect Neuss and Krefeld starting January 8, 2024. This new line, combined with the RE 7, will provide improved train service, with passengers having the option of traveling every half-hour instead of the previous hourly service.
However, the extension of the RB 37 line to Geldern and Kleve is under consideration, although specific details or timelines are yet to be confirmed.
SPD fraction leader Udo Bartsch supports additional rail projects, including the Revier-S-Bahn in the south of the district, the S 6 from Cologne to Mönchengladbach, and the electrification of the S 28 line from Kaarst to Mettmann and Wuppertal.
Bartsch believes these projects will have a positive environmental impact and significantly improve rail service offerings in Rhein-Kreis Neuss, reducing road traffic. However, his proposed projects do not include the initial connection of Neuss to Krefeld on January 8, 2024, nor the extension of the RB 37 line beyond Krefeld.
The cities of Neuss and Meerbusch are expected to particularly benefit from the improved train service. Notably, the line may be extended further to Kleve in the future, although no official details have been released yet.
It's worth noting that Horst Fischer, the mobility spokesman for the SPD district council fraction and a member of the VRR association assembly, is also involved in these discussions.
For the latest authoritative information on these projects, including precise project status and official plans, checking Deutsche Bahn regional announcements or the North Rhine-Westphalia transport ministry sources directly is recommended.
The proposed Revier-S-Bahn in the south of the district, the S 6 from Cologne to Mönchengladbach, and the electrification of the S 28 line from Kaarst to Mettmann and Wuppertal are additional rail projects supported by SPD fraction leader Udo Bartsch, aiming to broaden rail service offerings in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss region and positively impact the environment.
Other than the rail infrastructure improvements within the Rhein-Kreis Neuss region, the broader public-transit, transportation, and finance sectors might also experience changes, as increased connectivity could potentially divert some road traffic to trains, potentially affecting road funding and usage patterns in the Other industry.
