Publishing house Lerner absorbs Gecko Press in recent purchase deal
In a significant move for the children's book industry, Lerner Publishing Group, a high-quality publisher based in the USA, has announced the acquisition of Gecko Press. Founded in 2005, Gecko Press specialises in publishing translated editions of picture books, chapter books, and board books for children.
The acquisition involves approximately 200 titles, including up to 20 new titles to be launched in 2024. Julia Marshall, the founder and CEO of Gecko Press, will stay in her position as a consultant after the acquisition.
Adam Lerner, publisher and CEO of Lerner Publishing Group, expressed his admiration for Gecko Press's award-winning, unique, and beautifully designed children's books. He praised Julia Marshall's special vision and her incredible ability to spot good books.
Rachel Lawson, the current associate publisher of Gecko Press, will supervise the acquisition as the new publisher-at-large, Gecko Press. Adam Lerner stated that they are honoured to continue Julia Marshall's vision with Rachel Lawson as Gecko Press publisher.
Lerner Publishing Group has been distributing Gecko Press books in the English-speaking world since 2011. Sales and distribution partnerships with Bounce (United Kingdom) and Walker Books (Australia and New Zealand) will remain unchanged after the transition.
All operations for Gecko Press will be managed from Lerner Publishing Group's headquarters in the USA. The learner will take over customer services, fulfilment, business management, and general publishing for Gecko Press in all regions, starting from January 1, 2024.
