Proposed Solutions to Security Challenges Within the Eurasian Economic Union by Nazarbayev
Let's talk about food security in EAEU countries. It's high time we beef up cooperation in the food security sector, says Nursultan Nazarbayev, the ex-President of Kazakhstan, in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, as covered by Total.kz.
"Right now, I think it's crucial to prioritize these issues. First - improving social infrastructure. Over the next few years, we need to make a kill in establishing a market for meds and medtech. Second - food security and agro-industrial policy. It's essential to turbocharge cooperation in this arena, prevent food crises, and create a business-friendly environment across the board," Nazarbayev pointed out.
He highlighted that if we work together like a well-oiled machine, providing food for all EAEU citizens is not an impossible dream.
"Food scarcities are looming. External trade ties are significant. We should put into action, as we've discussed at our past shindigs, a bridge connecting European and Asian markets. Let's get the Shanghai Organization in on the action," Nazarbayev proposed.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of going green in our economy, which is a trend many nations are currently hopping on.
"We should partake in some knowledge swapping when it comes to crafting wind and solar power plants in our countries. Combining our resources is the way to go. We need to keep plugging away at removing trade barriers and fulfilling our commitments. I've got faith that our union packs a punch, as proven by other countries' eagerness to sign trade pacts. Only through teaming up with trusty partners and allies can we ensure the economic security and self-reliance of our countries," Nazarbayev concluded.
While Nazarbayev's exact strategies and initiatives for cooperation among EAEU countries may not be spelled out in detail, broader initiatives within the EAEU are underway to tackle food security, agro-industrial policy, and green economy:
Food Security and Agro-Industrial Policy
The Eurasian Economic Commission is working on digitalizing agriculture, crafting a digital ecosystem within the EAEU, exchanging data on agricultural varieties, and developing an interactive agricultural map. Also in the works is the implementation of agreements on warehouse certificates for agricultural products starting from June 1, 2026, aimed at boosting agricultural e-commerce. The EAEU has also signed free trade agreements like the one with Iran, which could boost trade volumes and diversify food sources.
Green Economy
Though specific EAEU initiatives directly linked to Nazarbayev’s proposals are not mentioned here, the union aims to foster economic integration and cooperation, which could indirectly support a green economy by encouraging sustainable trade practices and resource management.
In summary, while Nazarbayev's specific proposals might be a bit vague, the EAEU is actively engaged in initiatives that could support food security, agro-industrial development, and elements of a green economy through broader economic and digital transformation efforts. Time to roll up our sleeves and work together!
