Products Undergoing the Most Decline in August, Based on Expert Analysis
Price Decreases Across Key Products in Russia's Last Month of Summer
Good news for consumers in Russia as prices for a variety of staple foods have seen a significant decline during the last month of summer 2025. According to reports published by 360.ru, the price drops were reported by the press service of the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT).
The significant price drop of vegetables such as cabbage, beets, carrots, and onions is primarily due to an increased harvest and larger supply of these crops, which led to a reduction in prices. Specifically, reports indicate that prices for these vegetables fell substantially in July 2025, with table beets dropping 26.1%, white cabbage 21.5%, carrots 7.6%, and onions also seeing notable decreases. This was part of an overall 7.1% decline in fruit and vegetable prices in the same period according to Rosstat data.
While earlier in the summer season, unpredictable weather such as heat and excessive rains had damaged some crops, causing concern about inflation and product shortages, the subsequent improvements and successful harvest activities appear to have increased the availability of staples, thereby driving prices down in late summer. Additionally, seasonal harvest cycles during August typically bring large quantities of these vegetables to market, further adding to the supply and reducing prices.
The most affordable key product in July was first-grade potatoes, with a price drop of 36.2%. The decreases in prices occurred for vegetables commonly used in borscht, such as beets and cabbage, as well as for other staples like table salt, rice, noodles, seasonal apples, sunflower oil, chicken eggs, milk, frozen fish, and even broiler chicken, which saw a drop of 0.8%.
This price decrease is a welcome relief for consumers, who have been dealing with rising prices in recent months. The report comes at a time when many are preparing for the colder months ahead and stocking up on essentials, making the price drops all the more significant. As we move into the autumn months, it will be interesting to see how these price trends continue to develop.
