Possibility of Karina Gould for Premiership not implausible

On September 15, 2025, the political landscape in Burlington, ON, is abuzz with speculation as a leadership contest unfolds within the Liberal Party of Canada. The contest arises following Bonnie Crombie's unsuccessful Leadership review.

Among the names being floated for the leadership contest are Jeff Lehman, Navdeep Bains, Karina Gould, and Nate Erskine-Smith. Notably, Gould, the current MP for Burlington, has been a federal Cabinet Minister for some time and is recognised as a formidable campaigner.

Intriguingly, Gould was not included in the Mark Carney choices this time around, leaving her potential candidacy an open question. Conversely, Eleanor McMahon, a former MPP for Burlington, has been mentioned in past leadership discussions. However, the support within the Burlington Provincial Liberal Party Association for McMahon was not as strong as some might have expected.

Despite the challenge of beating Doug Ford in the political context, it is clear that someone will eventually rise to the occasion. As for who that might be, the future remains uncertain. It is worth noting that McMahon, who is still under 40, has not ruled out future political aspirations, including the possibility of becoming the Prime Minister.

Recent events in Burlington have seen McMahon and Gould collaborating, as they attended a Remembrance Day Ceremony together. When asked about the possibility of running for leadership in the past, Gould did not respond.

As the newsletter readers are already aware of the biggest names being floated for the leadership contest, the question on everyone's mind is who will ultimately step up to the challenge and lead the Liberal Party into the future. The answer to this question will undoubtedly shape the course of Canadian politics in the years to come.
