Portugal’s wage growth lags behind Europe despite 7% salary hike

Portugal's average annual salary for full-time employees reached €24,818 in 2024, placing the country 10th among EU nations with the lowest wages, despite a significant wage increase. This figure is considerably lower than the EU median of €39,800.

In 2023, Portuguese workers saw a 7% increase in their wages, outpacing the average 5.2% rise across Europe. However, this increase was not enough to move Portugal significantly up the rankings. The average annual salary for a full-time worker in Portugal in 2023 was €24,818, compared to the EU average of €39,800. Despite this progress, Portuguese workers remain among the ten lowest-paid in the eurozone.

Portugal's wage growth is encouraging, but it still lags behind the EU average. The country's average annual salary for full-time workers in 2024 was €24,818, highlighting the need for further improvements in wages.
