Portugal's Bentonite Market Booms in 2024 as Consumption and Imports Surge

Portugal's bentonite market witnessed significant growth in 2024, with consumption and imports reaching peak levels. Meanwhile, exports, though increasing in value, saw a decrease in volume.

Bentonite consumption in Portugal surged to unprecedented heights in 2024, with imports also reaching a record X tons. This marked a X% increase from the previous year and is expected to continue growing in the immediate term.

Portugal's bentonite exports, however, showed a mixed picture. While the value of exports rose notably to $X, the overall volume decreased by X% to X tons compared to the peak in 2014. Despite this, the average export price grew by X% to $X per ton.

Germany emerged as the primary supplier of bentonite to Portugal in 2024, accounting for approximately 2.4 million tons, or about 23% of total European clay exports. Turkey, however, was the largest supplier to Portugal that year, with a X% share of total imports.

Angola was the main destination for Portuguese bentonite exports in 2024, receiving a X% share of total exports. After three years of growth, exports to Angola decreased by X% to X tons in 2024.

The Portuguese bentonite market experienced significant growth in 2024, with consumption and imports reaching record highs. While exports showed a decrease in volume, they increased in value, indicating a potential shift in the market.
