Popular Brooklyn Mirage Venue Faces Demolition Over Safety Fears and Financial Woes
Brooklyn Mirage, a popular event venue in Brooklyn, faces demolition due to safety concerns and financial woes. The Department of Buildings has raised issues with the venue's redesign, while its parent company, Avant Gardner, struggles with significant debts.
Brooklyn Mirage's future hangs in the balance due to safety issues and financial troubles. The Department of Buildings has reported that the venue's redesign lacks automatic sprinklers and may not withstand wind and earthquakes. Furthermore, the venue's redesign did not meet the criteria for a 'temporary structure' occupancy certificate.
Avant Gardner, the parent company, has filed a permit application to raze the venue. The application covers 32,000 square feet with an estimated cost of $1.5 million. The Bowery Presents, a concert promoter, is set to carry out the demolition project. Meanwhile, Avant Gardner is grappling with substantial debts, having filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and owing over $155 million as of August.
Brooklyn Mirage's demolition seems imminent due to safety concerns and Avant Gardner's financial struggles. The Department of Buildings' findings and the company's bankruptcy filing have led to this decision. The future of the venue and its impact on the local event scene remains uncertain.
