New Balance Police Station in Baden-Württemberg Sets Standards in Energy Efficiency
In the heart of Baden-Württemberg, the town of Horb am Neckar has welcomed a new addition to its safety infrastructure. The new balance station, located on Hornauer Straße 8, near the Horb train station, was inaugurated by Finance State Secretary Gisela Splett and Interior Ministry State Secretary Thomas Blenke.
The new building, designed by the architectural firm Extern: Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Architekten from Stuttgart, replaces the previous station housed in the historic Fruchtkasten building in the city center. The new station boasts a modern design with a solidly constructed ground floor and two upper floors in timber frame construction, featuring large window openings that face the historic town center, symbolizing openness to the public areas of the station.
The new Horb police station is not just a visual upgrade, but also a significant step forward in energy efficiency. Funded by an investment of approximately 12.8 million euros, the building meets the standard of an Efficiency House 40 EE. The energy concept includes a large rooftop photovoltaic system (81 kilowatt-peak), energy storage, high-efficiency heat pumps, and the use of green power, making it entirely powered by renewable energy sources.
The station is equipped with charging points for electric vehicles, both for police service vehicles and visitor vehicles, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainable practices. This commitment to climate protection extends to traffic and electric mobility, as the station's location on the edge of the city center allows for easy access and minimal environmental impact.
The Ministry of Finance, which oversaw the project, has a press office and a citizen liaison officer available for news inquiries. They also provide downloadable photos for media use, making it easier for the public to stay informed about this significant development.
The inauguration of the new Horb police station strengthens the police infrastructure in Horb am Neckar and the surrounding region, ensuring the safety of the state around the clock at 145 police stations across Baden-Württemberg.
