PNP Returns PHP500M from Unrequested Intelligence Fund, Vows Transparency
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and accountability by returning PHP500 million from its intelligence fund for fiscal year 2025. The funds, which were inserted into the budget without the PNP's request, were promptly returned to the Office of the President.
The PNP, under the leadership of Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., has emphasized its dedication to adhering to government auditing and accounting rules in managing intelligent and confidential funds. When the PNP discovered the insertion, it took immediate action to address the irregularity.
The PNP clarified that it did not request the PHP500 million and that the proposal for its insertion was made by an unspecified individual or group. The Department of the Interior and Local Government, headed by Secretary Jonvic Remulla, confirmed the PNP's return of the funds. Nartatez directed all PNP offices to strictly comply with rules and procedures in utilizing intelligent and confidential funds, reminding personnel of their duty to ensure lawful and purposeful spending of public funds.
The PNP's swift action in returning the PHP500 million demonstrates its commitment to transparency and accountable use of public funds. Under Nartatez's leadership, the PNP will continue to uphold principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance, ensuring that public funds are used lawfully and for their intended purposes.
