PM Modi Launches 16 Major Fisheries Projects Worth Rs 693 Crore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid the foundation for 16 major fisheries projects worth over Rs 693 crore. The initiatives aim to strengthen India's Blue Economy and support fishers and farmers across the country. The event was attended by local fishers and progressive farmers from 100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts.
The projects include a Rs 170 crore Trout Fisheries project in Uttarakhand and a Rs 119.94 crore Smart and Integrated Fishing Harbour in Puducherry. In Odisha, a Rs 100 crore Integrated Aqua Park in Hirakud will support tilapia and pangasius production, cage farming, hatchery operations, and fish processing. Multiple projects such as feed mills, cold storages, ice plants, and biofloc systems were inaugurated or approved across several states to improve fish production, processing, and marketing. Uttar Pradesh's Rs 70 crore Nutrition Hub of Sustainable Aquaculture in Amethi focuses on eco-friendly fish feed production and modern aquaculture practices. Seven new projects with a total value of Rs 572 crore were inaugurated, and nine projects worth Rs 121 crore had their foundation stones laid. These projects are implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF).
Regions including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal have received fisheries promotion projects worth over 100 crore rupees. The projects aim to boost fish production, processing, and marketing, supporting fishers and farmers across the country. The Prime Minister's initiatives are expected to strengthen India's Blue Economy and create new opportunities in the fisheries sector.
