Pipeline repairs in Pieschen cause detours for locals
In the heart of Dresden, commuters and tourists alike will experience some changes to their usual tram routes from July 21, 2025, as construction works on the tracks at Dresden - Leipziger Straße are set to begin. The affected lines are 4, 9, and 13, with replacement services in place to maintain passenger connections around Altpieschen and Leipziger Straße.
Disrupted Operation and Replacement Services
Due to the track construction, the regular operation of tram lines 4, 9, and 13 is disrupted. To cover the interrupted sections, replacement services designated as EV4, EV9, and EV13 will run during this period. Detailed routing for these replacement lines follows modified paths around Altpieschen to avoid the construction zone.
The timetable and routing information for the replacement lines EV4, EV9, and EV13 are valid until further notice during the construction. The DVB Dresden’s official site provides an info flyer explaining the exact detours, stops affected, and stop replacements during this disruption.
Line 4 Changes
Line 4 is currently operating on a split route. In the east, it runs from Tolkewitz to Trachenberger Platz. However, during the construction period, it will not run to Trachenberg but will continue as Line 13 to Prohlis. In the west, trams from Weinböhla and Radebeul West will only run as far as Dreyßigplatz in Mickten.
Replacement traffic EV 4 connects Mickten to Bahnhof Neustadt, while Line 4 will operate as Line 13 from Fritz-Reuter-Straße to Prohlis during the specified times. It's worth noting that during late evening hours, at night, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings, Line 4 will be connected to Line 13 at Fritz-Reuter-Straße.
Line 9 and Line 13 Changes
Line 9 continues its split route during late evening hours, at night, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It will be shortened and will run from Prohlis to Großehainer Straße/Fritz-Reuter-Straße. Line 13 will still run from Prohlis to Großehainer Straße/Fritz-Reuter-Straße during the specified times, operating on a shortened route.
EV 13 takes over from Bahnhof Neustadt and runs to Kaditz, while in the opposite direction, EV 13 serves the route from Kaditz via Mickten back to Großehainer Straße, and then returns as EV 4. The EV 13 route from Kaditz via Mickten back to Großehainer Straße is not affected by the night traffic changes.
Construction Details
The construction works will affect tram traffic in the Neustadt. Starting from July 21, construction works will take place in Altpieschen and last until August 11, 2025. Commuters are advised to check the DVB Dresden’s official site or pick up the info flyer for the most accurate and up-to-date information on detours, stop replacements, and timetable adjustments.
The replacement traffic ensures continuity of service on these lines while the tracks at Leipziger Straße are under construction. By maintaining these connections, DVB Dresden aims to minimise the impact of the construction works on commuters and tourists alike.
The construction works on the tram tracks at Dresden - Leipziger Straße will affect the industry of transportation, specifically tram lines 4, 9, and 13, starting from July 21, 2025. Financial implications might arise due to the need for replacement services, designated as EV4, EV9, and EV13, to cover the interrupted sections and maintain passenger connections around Altpieschen and Leipziger Straße.
During this period of construction, the finance sector may also be impacted by increased costs associated with operating the replacement services, as well as potential decreases in ridership due to the disrupted operation of the original lines.
