PhilHealth waives interest on overdue premiums in new relief program

PhilHealth has launched a one-time waiver program to clear interest charges on missed premium payments. The move follows a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and aims to ease financial burdens for employers and members. Official rules for the scheme were released on 24 August 2023.

The program allows employers, self-employed individuals, and other covered members to settle long-overdue contributions without paying accumulated interest. However, the waiver only covers interest—not the unpaid premiums themselves.

To qualify, employers must register their workers under the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) and complete the First Patient Encounter (FPE). PhilHealth has also set a one-year window for settling outstanding premiums, with earlier payments receiving larger interest reductions. The agency is urging all eligible parties to act quickly, as this is a limited-time opportunity. The policy seeks to help members restore their good standing with the National Health Insurance Program.

The waiver initiative offers relief to those struggling with past-due premiums. By removing interest penalties, PhilHealth hopes to encourage compliance and improve access to healthcare benefits. Employers and members have until the deadline to take advantage of the reduced settlement terms.
