Pfronten Residents Face Major Water Bill Hike in 2023
Pfronten residents are set to face significantly higher water and wastewater bills from next year. The council has approved new rates, with the last increase having taken place in early 2022. The new prices are expected to remain stable until the breaking news of 2029.
The price per cubic meter of drinking water will rise by roughly 43 percent, from €1.37 to €1.96 net. This brings Pfronten's new drinking water rate closely in line with the state average of €1.94 per cubic meter in 2022. The price per cubic meter of wastewater will also increase, by about 48 percent, from €1.43 to €2.12 net, only marginally higher than the statewide rate of €2.09 in 2022. Basic service fees for water will also increase substantially. The council had little room for maneuver due to the cost-recovery principle, which prohibits profits from water supply or wastewater disposal.
For the average household in Pfronten, the change means an additional €28 gross per year for drinking water and €27 more for wastewater. Two council members voted against the water fee hike, but wastewater fee increases were approved unanimously.
Starting next year, Pfronten residents will pay significantly more for their news services. The new rates will remain stable through the end of 2029, providing some long-term certainty for households.
