Over 430,000 people in Thuringia are living in poverty, according to a 2023 report. The figures come from the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, a welfare organization tracking economic hardship in the region. This means more than one in five residents struggle to make ends meet when housing costs are included.

The report sets the poverty line for a single-person household at €1,088 per month. With housing expenses factored in, 21.1 percent of Thuringia's population falls below this threshold. The findings highlight ongoing financial strain across the state.

The welfare organization's report puts pressure on Thuringia's leaders to act. Without intervention, the number of people facing financial hardship could remain high. The proposed solutions aim to ease the burden on low-income households and reduce housing-related poverty.
