In a strategic move to streamline its portfolio and focus on core markets, AMS-Osram, a German-Austrian chip and sensor conglomerate, has announced the sale of its specialty lamp business to Japanese rival Ushio for 114 million euros.

The sale involves the profitable Entertainment and Industry Lamps (ENI) division, which generated approximately €170 million in revenue last year. This division specialises in the production of specialty lamps for various applications, including infrastructure, cinema, and semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment.

The decision to sell the ENI division is part of AMS-Osram's accelerated deleveraging plan aimed at reducing its debt. The company aims to generate proceeds well above €500 million from such transactions to expedite debt reduction.

CEO Aldo Kamper stated that Ushio is the perfect new home for the specialty lamp business. Ushio, with approximately 6,000 employees, plans to integrate the ENI business to enhance its industrial processes segment, particularly the semiconductor-light-source field. The company also plans to employ the 500 employees of the ENI division.

The sale to Ushio further streamlines AMS-Osram's portfolio, allowing the company to focus on its core markets post the sale. The transaction is expected to close by the end of March 2026.
