West Campus Crosswalk Closure and Pedestrian Detours

Starting on Friday, August 8, 2025, the center crosswalk in the West Campus area will be closed due to ongoing construction work on the campus steam distribution system [3]. The closure is expected to last for several days, but no specific end date or daily hours of closure have been announced.

The closure is necessary as the temporary bridge in the West Campus area will be removed for necessary sidewalk replacements along the east boundary of the Raynor Avenue lot [3]. This work is being carried out by Campus Planning, Design and Construction, CenTrio Energy, and local contractors [1].

For pedestrian traffic during this closure, while no project-specific pedestrian detour maps or instructions were found, general practice for such campus construction typically includes marked pedestrian detours around the closed crosswalks, often using adjacent sidewalks or alternate crosswalks nearby [1].

Pedestrians to or from the Raynor lot are advised to use the north crosswalk at Van Buren Street and Stadium Place or the south crosswalk at East Raynor Avenue and Stadium Place during the closure [2].

If you have questions or concerns about the crosswalk closure or need more information about alternative routes, please contact Anthony Cabrey at Campus Planning, Design and Construction at 315.420.4557 or [email protected] [1].

  1. In light of the West Campus Crosswalk Closure, pedestrians may need to consider alternative routes involving the finance industry for monetary means to utilize transportation services, such as taxis or ride-sharing, if the detours are too lengthy or inconvenient.
  2. The pending closure of the center crosswalk in the West Campus area may impact certain industries like transportation and finance, as students, faculty, and staff who depend on these sectors for commuting purposes may face challenges in reaching their destinations during the construction.
