Offices of EPAM and Wargaming in Lithuania remain in a state of dissolution
In the bustling world of Lithuania's IT sector, two significant players, EPAM and Wargaming, have seen some changes in their standings. According to data from devby.io, Wargaming Vilnus has slipped from 127th to 138th place, while EPAM Sistemos remains in 4th place in the "information and communication" sector, holding onto the 95th position among the top 500 largest taxpayers in Lithuania.
EPAM's Lithuanian subsidiary has seen a fluctuation in its tax contributions. In the first quarter of 2023, the company paid 3.7 million euros in taxes, the lowest in 2+ years. However, a rebound was seen in the second quarter, with contributions increasing to 4.3 million euros. Despite this, the total tax paid to the Lithuanian budget in the first half of 2023 amounted to just over 8 million euros, a nearly 20% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Wargaming Vilnus, on the other hand, paid slightly less in taxes in the first half of 2023, amounting to 5.8 million euros, down from 5.96 million euros in the same period last year. The average salary in Wargaming Vilnus dropped to 5,500 euros gross in July, but significantly increased in June, exceeding 12,000 euros.
The workforce in both companies has seen a reduction. As of early August 2023, Wargaming has 757 specialists working in its Lithuanian office, a decrease of nearly 80 specialists compared to the beginning of the year. EPAM has around 1180 employees in its two Lithuanian offices, a decrease of nearly 50 people since the beginning of the year, including nearly 30 specialists in the second quarter.
Another Belarusian-rooted company, Gurtam, has entered the top 500 at 293rd place. In six months, Gurtam paid over €3 million to Lithuania's budget, similar to the amount paid in the same period last year. Meanwhile, product companies Flo and MA (formerly Melsoft) continue to regularly appear in the top 50 of the "information and communication" sector, with Flo contributing nearly €1.8 million in taxes and MA contributing nearly €1.7 million in the first half of 2023.
It is worth noting that specific information on why and how EPAM and Wargaming reduced their tax contributions to Lithuania's budget in the past year, as well as their current tax payment figures and rankings, were not found in the current search results. For precise, up-to-date information on these matters, one would typically find it in official Lithuanian government tax disclosure reports, financial statements of the companies, or investigative economic reports by local news or industry analysts.
Despite these changes, EPAM and Wargaming remain the largest taxpayers in the Lithuanian IT sector. The average salary in EPAM's Lithuanian offices was 4880 euros gross in June 2023, while the average salary in Wargaming Vilnus was 12,000 euros gross in June. Telia Lietuva, TELE2, and Bite Lietuva remain the top 3 in the "information and communication" sector. Product companies Flo and MA continue to regularly appear in the top 50 of the sector.
EPAM's fluctuation in tax contributions within the finance sector is noteworthy, especially following a 20% decrease in the first half of 2023 compared to the previous year, while still maintaining a significant position in the business industry. Meanwhile, Wargaming's shift in position, both in the IT industry and in the list of top taxpayers, is evident with a decrease in tax contributions and an increase in average salary.
