Novartis and Kassel Heart Center launch cholesterol care pilot for 600 patients
Novartis Germany has teamed up with the Ambulantes Herzzentrum Kassel to improve care for heart patients. The partnership will test a new lipid management model aimed at lowering LDL cholesterol levels. The pilot phase involves 600 patients, with plans to expand the programme nationwide by 2027.
Meanwhile, the Swiss stock market showed little movement on Thursday. While most shares rose, gains were limited as investors sold off shares in major pharmaceutical firms like Novartis and Roche on the stock market today.
The new care model focuses on standardising follow-up treatment for patients after catheter-based heart procedures. Its goal is to help 90% of participants reach their target cholesterol levels within a year. The pilot will run in Kassel before expanding to 10 regional clinics in mid-2026.
If successful, the programme could extend to 5,000 patients across Germany by the end of 2027. This initiative is part of Novartis Germany's wider push to modernise healthcare structures and support patients throughout their treatment journey.
On the stock market today, the Swiss Market Index (SMI) hovered near 13,500 points after approaching a record high of 13,600 the previous day. While many stocks traded positively, profit-taking in Novartis and Roche weighed on the stock market today. Investors pulled back from these pharmaceutical giants, preventing further upward movement.
The lipid management pilot in Kassel marks a step toward broader healthcare improvements in Germany. Expansion plans will depend on the initial results and the ability to replicate success in other clinics.
In financial markets, the SMI remained steady despite pressure from pharmaceutical stocks on the stock market today. The index's stability reflects mixed investor sentiment as gains in some sectors offset losses in others.
