Employees earn significantly more - North Rhine-Westphalia workers see real wages jump 3.1% in Q3

Workers in North Rhine-Westphalia have seen their real wages rise by 3.1% in the third quarter of this year. The increase marks the strongest growth since early 2023, driven largely by recent collective bargaining deals across key industries.

The wage boost follows negotiations between major unions and employer groups. IG Metall NRW and the Arbeitgeberverband Fachverband Metall (the metal industry employers' association) secured substantial pay rises for sectors like iron and steel, locksmithing, and electrical trades. Similar agreements were also reached in the automotive trade and meat industry, where IG Metall played a key role.

The latest figures show a clear impact from union-led wage negotiations in North Rhine-Westphalia. With real wages now growing at their fastest rate in over a year, employees in these sectors are seeing tangible improvements in take-home pay. The trend highlights the role of collective bargaining in shaping earnings during a period of moderate inflation.
