New York’s HEAP Applications Open After Federal Shutdown Delay

Applications for New York’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) have finally opened after a one-month delay. The hold-up came from the federal government shutdown in October. Residents who missed the 2022 deadline can now apply for support with heating costs this winter.

The HEAP program offers eligible households up to $996 to help cover heating expenses. Funding depends on income, household size, heating type, and whether vulnerable members—such as young children or older adults—live in the home.

The delayed opening means households can now apply for winter heating aid. Eligible residents should submit their applications as soon as possible to secure support. Payments will help cover costs for oil, gas, electricity, and other heating sources.
