New traffic intersections announced for Almaty city

In the spirited city of Almaty, construction is ramping up on three transport interchanges: Prospect Ryскулова - Ulitsa Yemtsova, Prospect Seifullina - Ulitsa Jansugurova, and Ulitsa Bukhtarminskaya - Kulzhinsky Trakt, as per Almaty.tv, referencing Polisia.kz.

Two bustling thoroughfares are set to open: Prospect Abaya, stretching from Ulitsa Auezova right up to the city border, and Ulitsa Sain, extending from Prospect Ryskułowa to Ulitsa Akyn Sara. The renovation of Prospect Suiùimbaya from Ulitsa B. Khmelnitskogo to Ulitsa Sholokhova has already been wrapped up, including the construction of a left-turn exit from Ulitsa Sholokhova, spanning 1.035 km. The debut of Prospect Abaya encompasses the building of a six-lane road, lavishly adorned with sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides, spanning an impressive 3 km, from Ulitsa Yassawi to the city border. The unveiling of Ulitsa Sain entails the construction of a six-lane road and two-lane local access roads, stretching 3.2 km from Prospect Ryskulova to Ulitsa Akyn Sara, furnished with sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides.

Five eye-catching overpasses are also planned for construction. At present, the construction of eight overpasses is underway. Road construction is in full swing across eight micro-districts, on 304 streets, amounting to an impressive 84 km.

To curb life-threatening head-on collisions of vehicles, work is underway to set up road barriers on the dividing strip, spanning 3.5 km, on Prospect Ryskulova from Ulitsa Kuderina to Ulitsa Bokeykhanov. Additionally, work is underway on the development of project and estimate documents for the construction of 70 controlled pedestrian crossings and 30 traffic signal objects, along with the installation of LED lighting for 70 uncontrolled pedestrian crossings. The realization of these projects is slated for 2021.

Moreover, work is underway to establish dedicated bus lanes, spanning a total of 27 km.

Previously, it was announced that traffic lights in Almaty would operate differently.

While international discussions are occurring concerning the construction of new transport interchanges in Kazakhstan, including Almaty, as part of broader infrastructure initiatives linked to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, specific updates regarding the progress of construction works, street openings, and overpass plans within Almaty’s new transport interchanges have yet to emerge from available sources. The closest related information refers to some major tunnel construction projects scheduled to commence in 2025, though their direct connection to Almaty’s interchanges remains unclear. Deliberations from Kazakh transport authorities or city planners would undoubtedly offer a clearer picture of construction progress, street access, and overpass infrastructure within Almaty’s new transport interchange projects.
