New Owner for High-Rise Complex in Göttingen - New Owner for High-Rise Complex in Göttingen
A troubled high-rise near Göttingen Central Station now has a new majority owner. The city confirmed that Hamburg-based real estate firm Sivius, through its local subsidiary Göttinger Quartiersgesellschaft, has taken over most of the 400-plus apartments at Groner Landstraße 9. The move follows years of complaints about poor living conditions in the building.
The 19-storey residential complex has suffered from long-standing issues, including broken heating, faulty elevators, piled-up rubbish, and repeated fires. Tenants and the city have clashed with the previous property management, which blamed unpaid rent for the lack of repairs—a claim both the local authority and legal representatives for residents disputed.
Sivius established Göttinger Quartiersgesellschaft specifically for this acquisition, with entrepreneur Matthias Lübken leading the subsidiary. Managing director Taha Jacobi announced plans to fully renovate the building and turn it into an appealing place to live. The city has welcomed these commitments, with Mayor Petra Broistedt (SPD) emphasising the need for a major improvement in residents’ quality of life. Initial steps are already in motion. Cleanup work has begun, and security staff have been deployed to the site.
The takeover marks a shift for the long-neglected high-rise. With Sivius and its local team now in charge, renovations and better maintenance are expected. The city and tenants will be watching closely as the new owner moves forward with its plans.
